Scottish Institute for Policing Research

New Associate Directors appointed

The Scottish Institute for Policing Research (SIPR) is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Niall Hamilton Smith and Dr. Shane Horgan as our new Associate Directors.

Following the announcements that Professors Prof Megan O’Neill and Lesley McMillan would step down from their respective roles, a competitive selection process was held to identify their successors. Niall and Shane bring extensive academic and professional expertise, along with a strong commitment to advancing policing research and collaboration across Scotland and beyond.

We would like to express our thanks to Megan and Lesley for their exceptional leadership and contributions to SIPR. Their work has been instrumental in strengthening our research networks, partnerships, and impact.

These appointments mark an exciting next phase for SIPR as we continue to align our research themes with policing priorities and foster collaboration across SIPR and SPACE.

Please join us in welcoming Niall and Shane to the SIPR leadership team!
