Scottish Institute for Policing Research

NEW SIPR ADMINISTRATOR APPOINTED

👏 We are delighted to welcome Esme O’Donnell to SIPR as our new Administrator! 👏

Esme is a PhD student at Edinburgh Napier University, where her research explores police and public perceptions of pandemic policing in Scotland. Her work focuses on how place and identity shape experiences and views of policing, whether as a citizen or an officer, and what this means for police legitimacy. She also has a strong interest in the role Continuous Professional Development plays in supporting officer wellbeing and retention.

Speaking about her new role at SIPR, Esme said:

I am a PhD student at Edinburgh Napier University, researching police and public perceptions of pandemic policing in Scotland. I am particularly interested in how place and identity shape people’s views and experiences of policing whether as a citizen or an officer as well as the implications these dynamics have for police legitimacy. Beyond my doctoral studies, my research interests include the role Continuous Professional Development plays in promoting officer wellbeing and retention.

Having volunteered as SIPR’s Postgraduate Coordinator, I have really valued being part of a team committed to supporting PGR and ECR development. Stepping into the Administrator role, I hope to continue elevating PGR voices while contributing more widely to the smooth running of the institute.

Esme already brings a strong understanding of SIPR’s mission and values, and we are thrilled to have her taking on this role. We look forward to working with her as she supports our community and helps keep the institute running smoothly.

Please join us in welcoming Esme to the SIPR team. 😊
