Profile:

I describe myself professionally as a highly-experienced public safety, risk and policing expert. I worked operationally, tactically and strategically as a senior police leader and commander. I led in challenging and uncertain environments. I have advised governments on policing, security and public safety, in the UK and overseas (Serbia and the UAE). I previously taught investigative and cognitive interviewing, chaired conduct and discipline hearings, investigated all levels of crime and security incidents, led multi-million pound capital projects national command and control, national Geographic Information System (GIS), and national police gazetteer system, from proposal, security accreditation to initial completion. I advised on policing strategy, emergency incident response, leadership, management of risk and decision making. Having worked overseas (2014 - 2021), I returned home and currently work within the Scottish Government.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: • Management of Risk (Practitioner). • Managing Successful Programmes (Advanced Practitioner). • Management of Portfolios (Practitioner). • PRINCE2 (Practitioner).

AWARDS & RECOGNITION: • Chartered Manager (CMgr), Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute. • Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (FRSA). • Member of the Security Institute (MYsl). • Five policing excellence awards • Two Chief Constable’s meritorious awards for bravery. • Three Queen’s policing medals. • Two President’s policing medals.

Research:

EDUCATION MA in Social Policy and Criminology. BSc (Honours) in Policing and Police Studies. BA in Social Studies and Psychology. Post Graduate Diploma in Criminal Justice Studies. Diploma in Applied Social Sciences. My research interests include but are not limited to: evidence-based policing, what works in crime prevention, early intervention multi-agency policing, emergency response and decision-making and leadership in critical environments. I would welcome any opportunity to rekindle my research skills, learn new techniques and mentor appropriate candidates or staff. I would also wish to explore expanding my network of academic and practitioner contacts, viewed especially from my new position as a Security Policy and Engagement Manager within the Security and Business Continuity Unit, Scottish Government.
