SPACE Acknowledgement Guidance

Purpose

This document sets out the standard wording and expectations for acknowledging support from the Scottish Policing Academic Centre of Excellence (SPACE). The aim is to ensure consistent recognition of SPACE as a UK Research and Innovation funded academic centre.

Standard Wording for Publications

The following sentence should be used in journal articles, conference papers, formal reports, and other academic outputs where SPACE has provided support:

“This work was supported by the Scottish Policing Academic Centre of Excellence (SPACE), funded by UK Research and Innovation.”

Where appropriate, the following sentence may also be included:

“The views expressed are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect those of SPACE, UK Research and Innovation, or its partners.”

Standard Wording for Media and Public Reports

For press releases, blogs, websites, newsletters, and public reports, the following wording should be used:

“This project was supported by the Scottish Policing Academic Centre of Excellence (SPACE), funded by UK Research and Innovation. SPACE supports innovation in policing research and practice across the themes of Safety, Prevention, Analytics, Confidence and Ethics.”

When Acknowledgement Is Required

Acknowledgement of SPACE should be included when:

  1. SPACE provides direct financial support.
  2. The work is funded through a SPACE call or scheme.
  3. The output forms part of a SPACE funded project, network, or programme of activity.
  4. SPACE provides substantive delivery or programme support that materially enables the work.

Acknowledgement is not required where there has been no financial or substantive involvement from SPACE.

Where the Acknowledgement Should Appear

In academic publications, the wording should appear in the formal Acknowledgements section or as a first page footnote where required.

In reports and public documents, it should appear on the acknowledgements page or within the introduction.

In media releases and blogs, it should be included in the main body of the text.

In presentations and conference materials, the SPACE logo should appear on the title or closing slide.
