Abertay University is offering a fully funded PhD studentship titled:
“Trauma and Technology: Identifying Best Practice for Video-Recorded Interviews (VRIs) with Victims of Sexual Crimes.”

📍 Location: Dundee, Scotland
📅 Start Date: October 2025
🗓️ Application Deadline: 28 May 2025
💰 Funding: Tax-free stipend of £20,780 per annum (increasing in line with UKRI), tuition fees covered, and a generous study package including research consumables, travel budget, and training.

Project Overview:

This interdisciplinary project aims to identify best practices for VRIs with adult victims of serious sexual crimes. By collaborating with stakeholders like Police Scotland and Victim Advocate Services, the research will focus on optimizing the setup and presentation of VRIs to benefit both victims and officers.

Dr. Julie Gawrylowicz and Dr. Penny Woolnough (Abertay University)
Dr. Karen Goodall (The University of Edinburgh)
Professor Amina Memon (Royal Holloway, University of London)

Entry Requirements:
First-class or upper second-class honours degree in a BPS-accredited Psychology programme or closely related discipline
Experience with both qualitative (e.g., interviews, thematic analysis) and quantitative (e.g., experiments, surveys) research methods
Strong communication skills, understanding of trauma-informed approaches, and experience in ethically sensitive research
